Known as the shoe capital of the Philippines for its famous shoe making industry, Marikina City is a former rural settlement that transformed into a primary residential, industrial, and commercial area. At present, Marikina is considered as one of the wealthiest local government units in the Philippines. And with the current progress the city is experiencing comes the need for more technical vocational education and training which is currently being filled upon by TESDA agency. At present, there are 29 TESDA accredited schools operating in the city including National TVET Trainers Academy which is a TESDA Technology Institution with free TESDA courses offered training Marikina City.
The accredited schools operating in Marikina City also offer free training by means of scholarship voucher given by TESDA. The scholarship vouchers for each training courses offered are limited to a specific number of qualified enrollees and a first come first rule is strictly followed for the granting of each scholarship voucher.
